Are we moving towards a Technological Singularity?

Many readers might have read or heard about Singularity- it is the hypothetical future creation of superintelligent machines. In layman language, Superintelligence is defined as technologically created cognitive capacity far beyond that possible for humans.

So, what is meant by a Technological singularity- It is a moment when the machine reaches a level of intelligence that exceeds human. There is no one version to define or prove this Singularity, but it is an ongoing revolution in Silicon Valley, appearing now as a religious prophecy or technological fate. The closest theory to a canonical Singularity is the version that appears in Ray Kurzweil 2005 bestseller; The Singularity Is Near: When Human Transcend Biology. Kurzweil is an inventor and futurist; he is a public advocate for the futurist and transhumanist movements and has been part of umpteen public talks to share and support his optimistic view on Life Extension Technologies a and the upcoming advancement in nanotechnology, robotics, and biotechnology.

The picture Kruzweil paints of the future are how technology continues to get smaller and powerful until its accelerating evolution becomes an indispensable agent of our growth as species. We will no longer carry computers around, instead, take them into our bodies- into our brain and bloodstream- changing the nature of human experience. It might be an attractive one if you already accept this mechanistic view of human beings.

We read many about AI( Artificial Intelligence), such as-Al ( Artificial Intelligence) has trigger technological growth resulting in unfathomable changes to human civilization. Elon Musk, whose ventures include Tesla and SpaceX, has warned that social risks being overtaken by artificial intelligence within the next five years. In an interview with NYT, he said that the current trends suggest AI could overtake human s by 2025. An important point to think or analyze: Will Artificial intelligence replace Human intelligence?

Human Intelligence is the brain’s quality that learns, extracts knowledge, and acquires abstract concepts from surrounding. In contrast, artificial intelligence is the machine’s ability to mimic the same tasks learning from the data it accepts. Intelligence is an attribute that belongs to humans, and if a machine could play the game right, our lives would be much more comfortable.

AI is excellent at replicating intelligent behavior, but intelligent thought is another matter. We still don’t fully understand how intelligent human thoughts develop, so we will not build machines that can have them anytime soon.

Moreover, the book ‘’The Globotics Upheaval’’ by Richard Baldwin suggests that AI will unsettle lives more than globalization, industrialization, and automation did. While he believes that the changes are unavoidable, adaptive strategies can be used employing the skills that no machine can clone creativity and individualistic thinking.

Scanning the unbridgeable gap between human intelligence and artificial intelligence in the near future, the right prospect would be to the complementary attributes of AI with human intelligence. The scientific research should focus on developed genes artificial intelligence applications that could integrate with human intelligence to enhance productivity within the broad restrictions of privacy and sensibilities. If we can create a collaborative world for both, it would surely open up new opportunities for numerous different fields.
