Benefits and Challenges of the Future AI World
Have you ever imagined a world run by AI machines?
What is the first thought that comes to your mind? I bet most of you are thinking of the plot of a Hollywood sci-fi movie where the world is taken over by the machines. Aren’t you?
But, to the experts in the field of Artificial Intelligence, one thing is clear- AI machines can never grow a conscience of its own. They can learn and do mundane and also complex tasks faster than any human being but can never replace humans.
“Intelligence is the ability to solve problems. Consciousness is the ability to feel things such as pain, joy, love, and anger. We tend to confuse the two because in humans and other mammals intelligence goes hand in hand with consciousness.” -Yuval Noah Harari
Future Technologies and its Gifts
With the advancement in the Artificial Intelligence, combined with Biotechnology, imagine a technology so advanced that when your cholesterol level goes beyond a limit, it immediately sends an alert to your phone-
“Your body needs immediate attention or your heart will stop working soon.”
You can ignore that like any other notification but what will you do when a copy of the notification is sent to your spouse?
Or, there is a development of a few cancer cells in your lungs due to excessive smoking and the tech sends an email directly to your mother.
What will you do then?
A bio-memory chip implanted in your arm and all the knowledge downloaded to your brain and you develop a new skill. Just like that. There is no need to spend months learning a new skill or hire someone to do the work for you. If you can afford the technology, you have the skill within the hour.
Challenges and the Demons
These kinds of technologies surely create a world where life becomes easier. We can ridicule the idea that such technologies will never see the daylight ever but can you be sure about that? No, we cannot.
Because we once believed the earth is flat and landing on the moon was impossible for humans. But we are past that now, isn’t it?
Sooner or later, AI with advanced biotechnology will lead to the creation of SUPERHUMANS, restricted to a select few individuals who could afford the expensive latest technologies.
Industrial Revolution also led to the loss of jobs but that was due to the factory owners exploiting the workers and getting the production done at a cheaper price. Human beings were still relevant and in due time, a lot of new jobs were created.
But with future technologies, there might come a time where a huge class of human beings becomes irrelevant. Not exploited but IRRELEVANT.
No one can stop the advancement in AI technology but the Governments across the globe should regularize and check the rate of advancement in such a way that there is a gradual transition to the future world.
We should not fear the advancement in AI, they are not going to take over the world! Let us embrace it with open arms!
If regulated and utilized properly, we can create a world where there is no sudden death due to a heart attack or cancer detected in the last stage or, a suicide committed due to an unchecked disturbed mind.
