How it started

The silent war of who is the true owner of the planet earth has been on for centuries, often time humans have recorded aliens trying to invade the planet earth from sighting of UFO’s and other life-like object in the outer space. “Here” are some reports made by NASA in recent times.

This event of things took a turn of recent as the hypothesis of who is the true owner of the planet became deepened. On the 31st December, 2019 marks the beginning of a new pandemic, a global threat which poses as a new challenge in the field of science and technology. The whole world was greeted with the news of a viral disease caused by a “microorganism” called Coronavirus.

Facts to know about “Coronavirus (Covid-19)”

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are common in people and many different species of animals, including camels, cattle, cats, and bats. Rarely, animal coronaviruses can infect people and then spread between people such as with MERS-CoV, SARS-CoV, and now with this new virus (named SARS-CoV-2). The SARS-CoV-2 virus is a betacoronavirus, like MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV. All three of these viruses have their origins in bats. In summary, it is safe to say Coronavirus is not a new one and it has been among us.

Coronavirus causes an illness in humans, the symptoms include; cold, sore throat, cough, fever and difficulty in breathing which later leads to death of the infected individual if not properly managed. The outbreak which started in China, alerted the World Health Organization (WHO) of several flu-like cases in Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province with 11 million population. Patients were quarantined and health authorities commenced work on tracing the source of the flu.

Fast forward to 11th of January, 2020. China officially reports the first death of a patient who has been quarantined from having coronavirus disease. A 61-year-old man, who was admitted to the hospital in December with the suspected fever dies from the virus in Wuhan. This development marks the beginning of a global panic which sent fear down the spine of all earthlings, in the light of the first recorded death in China another case was confirmed in Thailand, a neighboring country.

This information triggered global concerns and the intervention by the World Health Organization became inevitable. China in response to containing the epidemic from spreading activates numerous control measures in order to halt the spread of the disease. One of the control measures is the building of a temporal hospital, an health care facility which was constructed in 10 days. In addition to this is the implementation of a travel restriction ban which halts the movement of non-infected individuals to the affected areas within the country. Other neighboring countries in response to ensuring preventive measures started imposing travelling ban at all borders.

The global impact of Coronavirus

Based on the statistics released by Data Science Nigeria, an Artificial intelligence driven non-governmental fast growing firm in Africa on the 7th of March, the number of infected individuals with coronavirus surpassed 100,000 with records in more than 90 countries across the world.

Covid-19 was declared a pandemic on the 11th of March, 2020 by the World Health Organization. The impact of the disease has moved through different stages ranging from mild to intense which has led to a huge disruption of human normal routines.

The global financial market, sport & entertainment, religious settings, schools and industries have been the greatest victim. In the last few weeks over 10 countries have put restrictions on public gatherings not excusing religious activities. Famous religious tourist attractions like Jerusalem in Israel and Mecca in Saudi Arabia have been suspended, an occurrence which has not happened in decades. Sporting activities ranging from contact sports to track & fields are all getting postponed across the world. Popular musical concerts like coachella which hosts thousands of different races are getting suspended indefinitely.

The biggest hit was felt in the global financial market as stocks and bonds prices started plunging with countries and investors recording heavy losses on investments. Cryptocurrencies are also not left out of headlines, a nosedive movement indicating a bearish trend has hit the crypto market in the past few weeks. This ripple in the global economy has also lowered the demand for oil, taking oil prices to its multi-year lows.

Of course the impact continues, a recent report made by UNESCO stated that over 800 millions of students are now out of schools, with many countries now opting for online classes, important stakeholder meetings and conferences are now been done on online video conference platforms like Zoom. Workers are also been encouraged to start working from home in order to reduce community spread for quick containment of the disease.

Human response to Coronavirus (Covid-19)

The bothersome question remains, are humans the true owner of this planet or microorganisms or some aliens?. Can a tiny virus truly extinct the entire humanity?

Well, human response to this recent huge shift has been impressive. Kudos to our not relenting health care system who has been battling the microscopic tiny non- living thing which needs a host before it can be tagged a living thing.

Covid-19 is predicted to having the capacity of wiping out over 150 million earthlings if not properly managed but recent updates from WHO and many health & medical bodies are relieving, as vaccines for this disease are acclaimed to be in trial stages in some countries. Also, technology has been of great help in tracking records and monitoring the disease spread especially through the use of artificial intelligence.
