Artificial Intelligence still has an aura or uncertainty surrounding it. A lot our day-to-day experiences, which range from the obvious (search engine queries) to the mundane (opening your phone using face ID’s) — is all accomplished through AI.
The question then arises, if Artificial Intelligence is being used to tackle commonplace, menial tasks — then why do we fear that AI (and for that matter, automation) will rapidly replace human beings in the workspace? The answer seems to lie in an epochal tendency of humans to trust unfounded, reactionary claims of xenophobic measures — one which fears the disruption of the status quo (in this case, the displacement of humans). That seems to be too far from logic. While various studies tell that 20 million manufacturing jobs will be lost by 2030, they also see 133 million new jobs emerging by 2022. It is not therefore that AI is stealing all jobs — just the tedious and mundane ones.
