the Machine Learning Awareness Imperative

How it all started

My journey with artificial intelligence started with my dissertation when my tutor suggested a project that would change my perception of the future of technology. My initial idea was a simple PWA(progressive web app) that would facilitate entertainment service providers to connect with potential clients. For some reason, my tutor considered this too basic for my potential(I still don’t understand why) and suggested instead a project that would predict the availability of those service providers. This would’ve only been possible with an artificial intelligence approach, a topic unfamiliar to me at the time. Extensive research, online courses, and lack of sleep were my only options. The result was disastrous, the best I could’ve done was a basic model using data from google trends and past availability of the subjects (I focused on popular singers). My tutor seemed to be happy with my work, yet I was greatly disappointed, maybe because of the high expectations I usually have from myself. I’m not that person that accepts failure and moves on, so after graduation, I started studying machine learning methods and technics more in-depth and I actually reached a point where I believe that future is not possible without AI. I will not go into more detail because this article is not about me, instead, I will try to explain how artificial intelligence is one of the things you have to understand if you’re an aspiring young(and not only) entrepreneur.

Why Machine learning

Why not? I mean.. it helps to solve a lot of issues, and I’m not referring to the world problems, let’s leave that aside for now. I’m talking more about your day-to-day activities, and especially your business. Having some basic machine learning knowledge could bring your business on top of the list of many potential clients. Business decisions, sales predictions, customer churn, and fraud prevention are only a few examples of machine learning applications for your business. The potential is huge, and the implementation becomes easier and easier with the help of the latest technologies.

Industry 4.0

What is Industry 4.0? Technology evolves fast, even faster than what the human intuition can capture. The industrialization has gone through three main revolutions so far. The first industrial revolution happened in the 18th century with the introduction of the steam power and mechanization of production; the second industrial revolution happened in the 19th century with the invention of electricity and assembly line production; the third industrial revolution was triggered by the introduction of partial automation using memory-programmable controls and computers, and finally, the fourth industrial revolution also known as Industry 4.0 is happening right now. Industry 4.0 is characterized by the implementation of highly efficient technologies such as Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, and Cloud. Many industries have already successfully implemented applications of AI, such as healthcare, education, communications, manufacturing, and many others.
